Dr. Kristen Maitland is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Director of the Microscopy and Imaging Center at Texas A&M University. Dr. Maitland is a Fellow of SPIE and AIMBE. Her research focuses on the development of optical instrumentation for improved detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
Research
Development of optical technologies for biomedical applications, including cancer diagnosis, tuberculosis detection, bacterial inactivation, and cell culture monitoring.
Research activities include the design, construction, and testing of optical systems; miniaturization for portability of microscopes and spectrometers; fabrication of complex tissue phantoms; computer modeling of light transport; quantitative image analysis; and in vivo evaluation in animals and humans.
